Slovenia, a beautiful European country known for its stunning natural landscapes, rich culture, and friendly locals, attracts visitors from all around the world. Among the diverse mix of people who have made Slovenia their new home are Syrians who have ventured abroad in search of a better life. As they navigate the challenges and joys of living in a new country, one small yet symbolic act that many Syrians abroad in Slovenia recently had to undertake was adjusting their clocks. Daylight Saving Time is a practice observed in many countries around the world, including Slovenia, where clocks are set forward by one hour in the spring and set back by one hour in the fall. This change is meant to make better use of daylight and ultimately save energy. However, for many Syrians who have resettled in Slovenia, the act of adjusting their clocks goes beyond just following a timekeeping ritual - it represents a tangible reminder of their journey to a new land and the adjustments they have had to make along the way. For some Syrians in Slovenia, the process of changing their clocks serves as a poignant moment of reflection, prompting them to think about the passage of time and how far they have come since leaving their homeland. It can evoke a mix of emotions - nostalgia for the familiar rhythms of life back in Syria, gratitude for the opportunities and support they have found in Slovenia, and perhaps a tinge of homesickness for the loved ones they left behind. Despite the practical purpose of changing the clocks, for many Syrians in Slovenia, it becomes a symbolic act of resilience and adaptation. It signals their ability to adjust to new surroundings, embrace change, and move forward with hope for the future. While the ticking hands of time may remind them of the distance that separates them from their past, it also symbolizes their capacity to carve out a new life and create a sense of belonging in a foreign land. As the clocks in Slovenia are reset for Daylight Saving Time, Syrians abroad find themselves recalibrating not just their timepieces, but also their sense of identity, community, and purpose. Each tick of the clock serves as a testament to their strength, courage, and resilience in the face of challenges and uncertainties. And as they continue to navigate the complexities of life in a new country, they find solace in the steady rhythm of time, knowing that with each passing day, they are writing their own story of hope, perseverance, and belonging in Slovenia.
